Tesla Runs Red Light and Collides with Box Truck in Midtown Atlanta

Atlanta, GA – A terrible accident happened Monday, April 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and Monroe Drive in Midtown Atlanta. A Tesla ran a red light and hit a box truck, and two are dead and 3 are critical.

Crash Details

According to the Atlanta Police Department, the Tesla was eastbound on Monroe Drive, ran a red light and hit the box truck northbound on Piedmont Avenue. The front end of the Tesla got lodged under the car.

The driver and front-seat passenger of the Tesla were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as 23-year-old Jordan Jessie and 21-year-old DeCarlo Carneal. Three other people in the Tesla were critical and were taken to the hospital. The driver and passenger of the box truck were not hurt. 

Emergency Response and Investigation

Atlanta Fire Rescue and Grady EMS responded to the scene to help the injured and manage the scene. The intersection was closed for several hours for investigation and cleanup.

The Atlanta Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash. They have not released who was driving the Tesla.

The community is concerned about traffic safety in the Midtown area. Residents and officials are urging drivers to follow traffic signals and speed limits to prevent this from happening again.
