Gallia County, OH – A single-vehicle crash occurred Tuesday morning, April 22, 2025, on State Route 588 near milepost 11 in Gallia County, Ohio. The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) stated that the crash occurred around 3:00 a.m.

What Happened

Troopers said 57-year-old Christopher Copley of Gallipolis was driving on State Route 588 when he lost control of his vehicle while going around a curve. The car veered off to the right side of the road, struck an embankment, and rolled over. Copley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Gallia County Coroner.

The Cause

Preliminary investigation indicates that the crash was caused by the driver losing control on a curve, resulting in the vehicle leaving the road and rolling over. OSHP is still investigating to see if other factors contributed to the crash.

Community Response

The community is sending condolences to the family and friends of Christopher Copley. Authorities are reminding drivers to wear seatbelts and exercise caution, especially when navigating curves and during early morning hours when visibility is low.
